Poetry against Arms

There are rich countries that produce and export weapons in the world, weapons with which wars are fought worldwide and with which armed gangs terrorize and kill people. They are the same rich countries where the expense of paying the monstrous cost of their armies is borne by the general populace; where armies are used to threaten, intervene, occupy, kill, exact revenge; and where media campaigns are developed speaking of guarantees of peace, justice and progress. There are few who benefit from the defense industry, while the vast majority suffer and feel powerless against this Goliath.

We oppose this monstrosity with the softest and most sensitive, delicate and most human: poetry.

Poetry made by people who have taken the most urgent project of humanity - to overcome violence in all its forms!

The dominance of the strongest is a vestige of the early days of mankind and is unworthy of modern man. There are serious and urgent problems to be solved, and we cannot afford to waste so many human and technical resources with this violence and destruction.

We need to address this once and for all. A joint project of mankind: to overcome violence!

We want reconciliation instead of revenge, the disarmament of armies and populations, a complete ban on nuclear weapons together with disarmament and the progressive conversion of the arms industry. We want the withdrawal of all invading armies from occupied territories, limiting the role of the military to territorial defense and civil protection for the population, and the signing of treaties between countries that definitively establish the rejection of war as a means of conflict resolution.

Inspiration

This campaign is not the result of a spontaneous idea or a group. It is part of the long history of humanity, and the struggle to leave behind the domination of a few over the many and to achieve progress for all and by all.

The inspiration for this campaign is the life, work and legacy of the Latin American poet, philosopher and mystic: Mario Rodriguez Cobos, also known as SILO.
His total commitment to active non-violence, his denunciation of all forms of violence, his doctrine for the overcoming pain and suffering and his magnificent poetry are a great affirmation of the meaning of life and transcendence.
